Since January 1, 2014, waiting periods for medical benefits can be no longer than 90 days.

How Does This Affect Your Business?
Employers who previously had waiting periods longer than 90 days  have had to modify their waiting periods in order to meet this requirement. For example, if you had a waiting period that was first of the month following 90 days, then it must be adjusted to either 90 days or first of the month following 60 days. This could result in additional costs because of the need to offer benefits to those employees who may not have remained employed through a longer waiting period.
