Relationships Prompt PEO to Become "Oasis" for FLCMAA
As Published in the Florida Club Focus
Golf courses are renowned for being the location for sealing many of the most successful business deals, and for generating or fostering lasting relationships. Many are orchestrated, but even more just “happen.” So when Michael McCarthy was playing in the Member-Guest at the Legacy Golf Club near his home in Port St. Lucie last Fall, he knew he would meet a few more neighbors. What he could not have envisioned was the CMAA relationship that would be born in the process. Ever one for being hospitable, his geniality was reciprocated by Phil Py, and the pair quickly identified a common professional challenge: managing human resources.
Conversations - and golf - continued between McCarthy and Py, well after the Legacy Member-Guest. Primarily due to it having a three-person human resources team led by Jackie Goby, one of the most respected directors in the business, BallenIsles does not have a business relationship with Oasis, but McCarthy, recognizing the potential benefits, doesn’t rule out the possibility. Even more typically, he saw a broader need for so many club operations to gain infinitely from the resources and professionalism offered by Oasis, and introduced Py and colleagues Tim Chapnick and Daneen Tyson to the Florida Chapter CMAA.The trio quickly realized the prospective benefits of an elevated relationship with FLCMAA, and eagerly enrolled as one of Florida’s two Diamond Partners for 2004. Participants in the Weekend Conference at the Gaylord Palms in July had firsthand opportunities to get a closer perspective on a type of service provider that, in the past, had prompted more questions than it provided answers.
One entity that has successfully partnered with Oasis is the Country Club at Mirasol. Opened three years ago, developer and owner Taylor Woodrow Communities wanted everything to be just right at the 2,300-acre property, with 36 holes of championship golf and a 55,000 square foot clubhouse. Mirasol’s management recognized that, when it came to the human resources function, it made sense to partner with a company whose core competency was HR.
From day one, Mirasol partnered with Oasis Outsourcing, which not only handled new employee orientation and got the staff ready for opening day, but managed employment-related administrative tasks such as payroll processing, tax reporting, benefit administration, and workers’ compensation claims. From working with the country club to establish employment policies to verifying immigration forms, establishing safety procedures, even assisting with employee discipline and providing management training seminars - the services Oasis provides ensures that Mirasol’s employment-related tasks run smoothly and
efficiently.
HR outsourcing also provides savings in that it allows management to focus their valuable time on their areas of expertise. For example, Oasis has streamlined the company’s payroll processes and set up a web-based system that has reduced Mirasol’s payroll processing time by an estimated 50 percent, and virtually eliminated errors.
“The human resources function is a major task, if you want to do it right, and in a service-oriented industry like ours, attracting and keeping talented staff is very important,” said Mike Lane, General Manager of Mirasol.
