Disaster. It’s such an unforgiving word, isn’t it? Disasters of all sizes cause more than just physical damage to company property; they impact your employees, your customers, and your company image. According to the Institute for Business and Home Safety, an estimated 25 percent of businesses do not reopen following a major natural disaster such as a hurricane, wildfire or flood.
Even the most compliant employers can become vulnerable to the constantly changing laws and regulations that govern human resources. One such law is the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which legislated that an employer can be held responsible for intentional and unintentional discriminatory compensation decisions that may have occurred many years prior. There is no longer a certain time frame, statute of limitations if you will, for filing a claim for discriminatory compensation practices.
